It's not that I don't like commuting....

After almost 40 years of taking the LIRR to Penn Station and then to CBS or NBC or ABC, I might just enjoy the five months away from the Penn station scene. I wanted to go to the man who makes my morning tea at the station but he wasn't there. Nor was the shoe shine man I've used four times over the last 40 years. But there were some heavy weight armed security people with their machine guns looking after everyone around. For those of you who don't know -- Penn station was renovated about 10 years ago and looks like it could go through another renovation. In fact, the mens room is going through another renovation RIGHT NOW. I'ts really exciting!! The busiest area of the station has become even more popular now, with full-bladdered New Yorkers waiting their turn to let loose on those new urinals. The homeless perverts who used to hang out there have moved to the nearby waiting room to use the plastic chairs. I never could figure out why the LIRR area was so yukky, when the Amtrak part of Penn. Station where trains come in from all over the country seemed more upscale. Perhaps New Yorkers don't think Long Islanders deserve any better. They certainly think more of those coming into Grand Central Station from hoity-toity Westchesterits...which is more cleaner. At any rate, I'm ready for some time off of the LIRR run, but I will miss the jazz players who fill the dirty hallways with their talents. This jazz combo was performing today Dec 30th.
