Hi Martin, for those of us unitiated in the familial, cultural and culinary aspects of life over there in SA we are finding your blog delightful and enjoyably informative so we look forward to much more to come- good luck at Rhodes U- sounds like an exciting future several months lie ahead- sending much love from B R Fl
Judy it took me a long time to realize this was from you....actually the sandwich was kind of an joke because my sisters always accused me of making ridiculous combinations of sandwiches...and this certainly was one. I am thrilled you guys are enjoying the blog. It certainly is a great way of communicating. Martin
Judy, about 100 years ago, martin came back from his day at school and demolished an ENTIRE loaf of bread in about twenty MARMALADE and MARMITE sandwiches. You know the Phillipses well enough to know we are not particularly picky eaters. This was THE VILEST COMBINATION ANY OF US HAVE EVER EATEN. I never thought he could have improved on that combination, but he has apparently done so. Love to all of you in Florida. Diana
Diana- thanks for the explanation- the Marks family had its share of strange food combinations too but nothing quite as exotic as what you've described-love back from gradually warming Florida-Judy
